
The first ever multi-modal journey planner in the UK was built in 1992 using 2 core technologies. The data technology developed by Iain Logan and the search engine developed by Dr. Eduard Tulp. This arose as part of a commercial alliance between Logan Interactive and the Netherlands Railways Centre for IT (CvI).
JourneyPlan was founded by Mac Logan and Jock Macandrew on 1 September 1997. The business secured private investment from a number of shareholders. In September 2000 JP was awarded the contract to build the Traveline Scotland (TLS) service. This was a multi-million pound contract covering:
On 3 January 2001 the Call centre opened on time. By late 2001 it was assessed as the best Traveline system in the UK following mystery shopping carried out by a government agency - this although the TLS project started 12-18 months after the rest of the UK.
Subsequently JP become a technology supplier to Northern Ireland (Translink) 2002, North of England (NETIS) 2003 and the UK Transport Direct project 2004. In addition JP has several Local Authority customers, two Transport Operator customers and sells PC/PDA products directly to the public.
