Mobile people need mobile services

To plan a journey confidently you need accurate and integrated information.  If one could deliver such information readily, reliably and economically, the value to the consumer is significant.  So, where does a person have to be to get information?  With advances in mobile and distributed technology the answer can be “anywhere”, any time, any place.

This any time, any place, service can add significant service value for an Operator. It can increase ridership built on traveller goodwill stemming from the quality and currency of information provided.  

Key areas supporting a successful real-time mobile access solution include;

  • accurate and up-to-date information for planning;
  • accurate and current information on the move (re-plan if necessary);
  • a familiar and convenient delivery channel like a mobile phone, WiFi, kiosk, etc.

There is also the ability to buy a ticket... but that 's another story. 

Delivering Mobile Services
There are very few companies in the Public Transport Information (PTI) market today that manage and offer data as efficiently and effectively as JourneyPlan.  That is what qualifies us to deliver new technologies such as SMS, WAP, wireless browsing and other services.  As discussed there are two key common factors in PTI service delivery, apart from speed:

  1. integrated timetable journey planning/data delivery through mobile technologies;
  2. real-time updating for deviations from the schedule from beginning to end.

Services Available

Mobile Internet provides planning information through the Internet.  Using multiple template technology PTI can be delivered to suit PDAs, mobile and SmartPhones.

SMS/WAP services include at-stop timetable and real-time as well as journey planning capability.  This includes both ‘push’ and ‘pull’ services with revenue share potential.

MMS (Multimedia Message Service) will allow the delivery of rich live content including maps, points of interest and tourist information to the extent required by the customer.  This also has revenue share potential.
